The Hills Have Eyes Movie Review by Luke

This is one of the movies that is a so called classic that almost every hardcore horror fan knows about. Well I hadn't seen it before. When I went to Twisted Nightmare weekend the cult actor Michael Berryman was in attendance. He is mostly famous for his look. After seeing him at the convention I decided it was time to see this movie.

The story follows a family as they travel across the country to go to California. They make an ill fated stop to try and find some iron mines and thats when trouble starts. Little do they know that in the hills lives a canniballistic army of inbred crazies and they are hungry.

The film was directed by Wes Craven in 1977. A few years after Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out and you can tell he borrowed ALOT from Tobe Hoopers masterpiece. It does have a few rather new elements but for the most part this is alot of TCM rehashed.

Being filmed in the 70s and being a horror film almost automaticly means bad acting. By now I'm sure you guys are use to that with these "classic" horror titles. Alot of over the top screaming and yelling. Dumb decisions being made and leading to someones eventual death. But hey it happens in even the best of horror films.

Now the gore in this movie is not really prevalent. There are a couple of scenes that are pretty wild. Such as one of the cannibalistic guys ripping the head off of a bird and drinking the blood. I've gotta say though other than that there isn't too much blood, a couple squirts here and there and thats it.

So it all boils down to whether or not this film is worth your time. I would say its worth a rental. I wouldn't suggest running out and paying more than $5 for this film. Its a nice classic but I doubt its something you will keep coming back to.  6 out of 10
