30 Days of Night SequelPosted by: TimAccording to reports a sequel for 30 Days of Night is already in the works. Frankly who cares. Studios are always thinking sequel when they have a kick ass film property like 30 Days of Night. Thinking about and making a sequel are two different things. Steve Niles' Graphic Novel will be directed by David Slade, whos first feature movie "Hard Candy" will be released on December 23rd. The film is the latest production from Ghost House Pictures ("Boogeyman") with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert producing, while Grant Curtis is overseeing the production.
The movie is not the only film based on Niles' work since Lionsgate Films acquired worldwide rights to many of popular comic book author's extensive catalogue like "Lurkers", starring Thomas "Punisher" Jane, and "In the Blood; The Dark Country". The story of "30 Days of Night" is set in a sleepy, secluded Alaska town called Barrow, where the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, an evil will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their kness. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff and Deputy, a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love. Mike Richardson, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are executive producing. Columbia will handle North American distribution of the film as well as in a few international territories and Mandate Pictures will handle the remaining international rights. At this moment the film is scheduled for a release in 2006.
