Scrubs Get To Stay

It’s not official yet, but according to their sources TVGuide.com has reported that allegedly NBC has ordered its seventh and final season of its sitcom "Scrubs” starring Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, and John C. McGinley. Fans have been hanging on to see if "Scrubs” would get a stay of execution for a last season, and it may have if this proves to be true, but just as with FOX’s "The O.C.,” the last season will be a shorter one, consisting of only 18 episodes, according to TV Guide’s website.

Actor Zach Braff has been drifting further and further away from the small screen, dabbling more and more in projects that hit the big screen big time, such as his first directorial effort, the critically-acclaimed "Garden State” and his latest two films, "The Last Kiss” with former "O.C.” girl Rachel Bilson and "The Ex” with Amanda Pete and former lead of Fox’s "Arrested Development” (on one episode of which Braff appeared) Jason Bateman.

Since the show relies so heavily on its main character J.D. played by Braff and J.D.’s inner monologue, it was difficult for fans to imagine the series surviving without him, especially when talk began after the success of "Garden State” that he was considering leaving the show to pursue the big screen full-time. Now Braff can follow his heart to act in films guilt-free and the show can bow out, which seems appropriate, given an unfortunate decline in the quality of the show and declining ratings that may also be attributed to the network’s delay of its season premieres the last two years.

The "Scrubs” Season 6 special one-hour finale airs this Thursday, May 17 at 9 p.m.
