Warner Brothers Says Canadians are Pirates

Posted by: Tim
Warner Brothers has come out swinging against canadian movie goers declaring that 70% of all pirated films originate in Canada. A very bold statement which I am sure they can back up with some stats. This comes via Variety who are reporting because of the number of pirates in Canada films will no longer be screened early in the country. And in some cases the studios are discussing pushing back all Canadian release dates period to stop the Canadian pirates. Thats right the entire country has been written off as pirates. And before you blame WB for painting all Canadians with the same brush, 20th Century Fox is reportedly thinking of going down the same route.

Why is Canada a haven for piracy?  Because the government apparently allows camcorders in the theatres. I had no idea that this was allowed, and hopefully some of you more educated readers can email me and enlighten me. Frankly if we are actually allowed to take camcorders into theatres then I can understand why the big studios are so frustrated. I have to admit though I though it was absolutely not allowed to bring in personal recorders into the theatre.

I for one am totally against piracy. A true movie fan doesnt steal his or her movies. WB will still continue to screen films for accredited press. Which is not likely to include blogs like this one. Kudos to my buddy Richard in the UK for picking up on this story.
