Who Wants to Be the Next Barbarella? It’s Not Beckinsale!Posted by: JerricaThe remake of the 1968 flick "Barbarella" starring Jane Fonda has been in the works for a while, and MO had previously picked up on the rumors that Lindsay Lohan was going to star, and then there were also rumors of Drew Barrymore, and so lots of names are being grabbed at random and being thrown into the mix. It was only a matter of time before Angelina Jolie’s name got pulled out of the rumor mill hat too. But the latest buzz was around actress Kate Beckinsale (the "Underworld" films and "Vacancy," currently in theaters). However, when IGN spoke to Beckinsale, she was surprised and amused by the gossip, of which she was completely unaware. "It's thrilling!" Beckinsale told IGN. "I've never heard anything about it before today. One of the [Whiteout] crewmembers told me." So, despite alleged insider info and internet gossip that spread like wildfire, Beckinsale doesn’t seem to be up for the role. "Beckinsale-arella!" she joked. And thus, the rumor mill will continue to spin. It’s already turned over more than once. Scarlett Johannson and every other sexpot starlet has been mentioned as a possibility. Even "Spiderman" star Kirsten Dunst was associated but The Sun Online reported that she refused to strip and bare the necessary skin for the role. "I don't want to wear that outfit," said Kirsten according to The Sun. "That's too revealing. I don't want to even think about wearing a bikini through an entire film." Personally, I don’t think they’ve got the right person thrown into the spinning rumor mill yet, but they may be reaching too high for the sake of getting a name when they could be overlooking the ideal woman to play this cult icon. Might I suggest the sexy and talented Erica Durance (Lois Lane on "Smallville") if she’s up for the role?
