Weinsteins Declare GrindHouse a Flop

Posted by: Michael
In what I consider a shocking move the Weinsteins have come out against their latest venture Grind House. In an exclusive interview with DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com they make it clear that they feel the movie is a huge dissapointment. Quote:
"First of all, I'm incredibly disappointed. We tried to do something new and obviously we didn't do it that well," Harvey told me today. "It's just a question of how is it going to hang in there. But we could split the movies in a couple of weeks. Make Tarantino's a full-length film, and Rodriguez's too. We'll be adding those 'two missing reels' that's talked about in the movie." (At one point in Grindhouse, a sex scene is interrupted because of "two missing reels" -- one of the many conceits and indulgences.)
GrindHouse is a unique concept, and a film that has been incredibly popular on our site. To the tune of hundreds of thousands of people checking it out. I think the problem is the film is for film geeks like me, and probably you. What does this mean in the big picture? It means its not going to do well in the box office, but it is going to sell like HOT CAKES on DVD. This was my prediction from the start. Their is now talk of restarting everything, and re-releasing the films as 2 films. Frankly I agree with USA Today in that this would do nothing to salvage the already tainted image of the film.
