Fox’s Bones and BlogsPosted by: JerricaFox’s series "Bones" starring David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel will be cruising the entertainment superhighway to MySpace for its May 9 episode called "The Glowing Bones in the Old Stone House," and according to the report by IGN, the victims and suspects of the episode already have profiles up for this special crossover effort to allow fans the fun of trying to crack the case before the episode airs. Television is seeping over into the online world of blogging, taking advantage of this hi-tech trend of Internet journals. Shows such as "Monk" and "Smallville" have initiated character blogs on their official websites to keep the story off the small screen and into cyberspace. The cult independent horror flick, "The Blair Witch Project," got a huge boost from its website, treating the story as if it were real and creating hype that publicity machines only dream of, because this continuation of the fantasy seems much more interactive, as do most things online. Fans create character role-playing blogs, journals, and websites for many of their favorite shows, and the world of TV has caught on to the popularity of such multimedia participation. A few examples of these extensions into the digital realm can be found in "Smallville" with its early "Chloe Chronicles" and new this season "The Oliver Queen Chronicles." Such varied online extras just goes to show that the Net can be a vast supplemental venue for the fun of character and series mythologies to unfold.
