Director Researching for Tekken Movie

Charles Stone III, who is directing the upcoming ‘Tekken’ film, has said the film is still in the early developmental stage and is currently doing more research on fighting styles for the film.

We got the writers going on it.  But I do want to investigate K-1 fighting—it's out of Japan—and then the ultimate fighting competitions that are sprouting up all over the place. I want to investigate those and just look at the history of the gladiator world through the past

Tekken is an action movie about a young man who, after discovering he is the holder of a great power, must battle a team of elite fighters who will not stop in their mission to steal this ‘power’.  Mr. Stone explains further:

I'm kind of interested [in] getting back to the whole sports super-conglomerate, Nike thing, and also drugs and steroids and the whole anabolic madness.  Right now I'm framing it after sort of Enter the Dragon as a backdrop, but again, more realistic and more accessible. I want it to seem like it can really happen in today's society, despite how grand and superhuman the characters are.

In his quest to create a believable movie, Stone may be shying away from using some of the more ‘over-the-top’ characters from the game.

We're probably not even using some of the more special-effects-laden characters.  We'll see how that all comes together. It's all open right now.

I sure hope that changes as I’ve seen Tekken and the crazy characters and moves are what make it a truly exciting game.  I’m not even a big fan of fighting games but I do love crazy special effects and such so I hope they aren’t dropped for the film!
