Superman and the Saturn Awards

Bryan Singer’s glorious revisiting of world’s greatest hero, "Superman Returns," is set for an adventure that honors the Man of Steel. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror announced its nominations for their 33rd Annual Saturn Awards, and Superman himself leads the major league of nominees. "Superman Returns" has 10 total nominations, and just behind it is "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Pan’s Labyrinth" both tied with six total nominations. "Superman" will not be in direct competition with "X-Men" because they are listed under the separate categories, Best Fantasy Film and Best Science Fiction Film, respectively; if this weren’t the case, I would say "Superman" was a lock for the win.

"Superman" nominations include Brandon Routh for Best Actor, Kate Bosworth for Best Actress, and John Ottman for Best Music. Also up for awards: "The Prestige," "V for Vendetta," and "The Fountain" for Best Science Fiction Film; "Hostel," "Slither," and "Snakes on a Plane" for Best Horror Film; "Apocalypto" for Best International Film and Mel Gibson for Best Director; "Cars" and "A Scanner Darkly" for Best Animated Film. In the vast land of TV, "Smallville," "Heroes," "24," and "Lost" are all nominated for Best Network Television Series. "Battlestar Galactica," "Dexter," "Eureka," and "Kyle XY" are all nominated for Best Syndicated/Cable Series. And, Patricia Arquette earned a Best Actress nomination for "Medium."

The Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 10th.
