According to IGN The Hitman movie is going to drop into theatres Oct 12th 2007 and wow am I surprised. There has been next to no word in recent months on this film and suddenly its gonna be in theatres in October? Vin Diesel has signed on to star as Agent 47 in 20th Century Fox's upcoming adaptation of "Hitman", the best-selling video game franchise from Eidos and developer IO Interactive.

The actor will also serve as executive producer. Charles Gordon and Adrian Askarieh are producing through their respective companies, Daybreak Prods. and Prime Universe Prods. and Daniel Alter will co-produce. Paul Baldwin, who served as the point man on the deal for Eidos, will be involved in a producing capacity. Hutch Parker, 20th Century Fox president, and senior vp Alex Young will oversee the project for Fox.

The movie will tell the story of the Hitman, aka Agent 47, who is the world's most accomplished and wealthy assassin, working for a mysterious organization called the Agency. However, he is plagued by a troubling past of deception and genetic butchery.

Adrian Askarieh said that  "'Hitman' is a project that by the virtue of its DNA can and will reach far beyond its already substantial core audience. The canvas on which this adventure takes place is something that movie audiences have embraced for the last 40 years. We obviously are delighted to have Vin Diesel on board, too -- he and Agent 47 are a match made in heaven."

Correction: Diesel quit the project back in December 2006 in favor of shooting Babylon A.D., the new movie from director Mathieu Kassovitz. Meanwhile, Timothy Olyphant has signed up as the new Agent 47. Thanks to the Vin Diesel fan site for the correction!
