Actress Cast for Bionic Woman Series

Remember the 1970s in all their technological wonder? The sci-fi fantasy storm that swept through film and television gave us a couple made of mechanical implants that gave them superhuman strength and abilities. "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman" weren’t superheroes but ordinary people with extraordinary computerized body parts inside. Well, NBC wants to being "The Bionic Woman" back as a drama series. Of course 30 years later, technology is a little more expensive, and what it took $6 million to do for Lee Majors’ Steve Austin, reports indicate that it will be $50 million to do the same for Michelle Ryan in her new role as "The Bionic Woman."

The report given by ComingSoon.net does not mention whether or not this "Bionic Woman" will be Jamie Sommers or a different character entirely, but the story seems like it will remain the same. Michelle Ryan is a British actress, unlike the original Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner. She’s pretty much an unknown on this side of the pond, but in the U.K., her career is just getting started and its foundation has been laid mostly in TV with the series "EastEnders" and a two-episode stint on the short-lived show "Burnside" in 2000. Trying to resurrect this series might be a foolish effort, but reinventing it might be something worth seeing, especially since Ryan seems set to be a sexy and vivacious new Bionic Woman, who could land somewhere between "Dark Angel" and "Alias" on the heroine for a new millennium scale. Of course, that could work for and against the whole concept, depending on how NBC develops it.
