Abrams Booted from Star Trek XI?

The rumor is that JJ Abrams has had a big time falling out with Paramount and has been kicked off the project. The rumor started at LatinoReview, and has since been debunked by AICN and now is being re-affirmed by latinoreview. So is he kicked off? Or is he still on the project? Frankly I dont really care. I was not impressed with the directing of MI3 and as much as I love LOST, I dont want to see a Star Trek XI movie made like LOST. William Shatner is going to return for a role in the upcoming Star Trek XI directed by JJ Abrams. But true to form, its not with some stipulations, and until we see a trailer I wont be holding my breath. He spoke to IGN and spilled the beans, quote:

They seem to be going in the direction of putting in Nimoy and myself. But in order to do that, itâ€™s a difficult story to write. So theyâ€™re in the midst of wrestling with all of that.

He also went on to say that he would not be doing a cameo. He wants a meaty role in order to sign on. The wierd part is he will not play Captain Kirk. So. Lets add this up. Captain Kirk wants to retun in Star Trek XI. Somebody else will play the role of Captain Kirk, and umm.... how will this work? Unless he plays an alien covered in make-up how do you give him a major role?
