Oldboy Collector’s Edition Boxset ReviewPosted by: Stanch We sent the Goon a copy of the new Oldboy Collectors Edition BoxSet to see if it was worth you all spending your shillings on it. The verdict is it kicks more ass then a wookie at an ewok camp-out. Read his OldBoy Collectors Edition Review. Hide your octopi, Oldboy is coming back for seconds. The first release in Tartan’s "Vengeance Trilogy Collector's Series,†this three-disc set will include over 350 minutes of bonus material, plus three cast & crew commentaries, an exclusive film cell from the 35mm reel and the first volume of the Old Boy graphic novel on which the film is based. Featured on over 50 "Best Of†lists in 2005 (including Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and The Onion) and currently #118 on IMDB.com’s list of all-time greatest films, Oldboy was the first U.S. release in Tartan and Director Park Chanwook’s "Vengeance Trilogy.â€
Based on the Japanese graphic novel of the same name, Oldboy concerns Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), an average family man who is kidnapped and imprisoned in a "hotel room†for 15 years without explanation. With no human interaction, his only company is the television where he sees he has been framed for the murder of his wife. Suddenly released, Oh Dae-su struggles to unravel the bizarre and twisting mystery of his imprisonment and seek revenge. But he soon realizes that his tormentor’s tortures have only just begun … An anglicized remake of Oldboy is currently in the works from Vertigo Entertainment and Universal Pictures. No cast has been announced but Russell Crowe, Nicholas Cage and Tom Jane have all been rumored for the film. Both of the other films in the Vengeance Trilogy have been released theatrically by Tartan Films as well. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is currently available on DVD and Lady Vengeance, in which Oldboy’s Choi Min-sik also stars, will be available on DVD September 26th.
