Revenge of the Nerds Remake Busted

The 1984 cult party movie about a bunch of outcasts "Revenge of the Nerds" was definitely a product of its time, and it’s hard to recapture such excessive camp value without the merits of some time-tested cult fan appeal. See the movies of Bruce Campbell for the best example of good quality camp that will endure through the ages. But, "Nerds" was not meant to be the franchise they tried so hard to keep going, even through the downward spiral of made-for-TV movies for the last two of three sequels to the original successful cult flick.

As MO previously reported, FOX Searchlight was developing a remake of this cult classic. A few names involved with the FOX teen series "The O.C." were signed on to produce, namely "O.C." producer McG and one of its young stars Adam Brody, because apparently this was a product of their collective brainstorming on the set of their show.

Unfortunately for any hopeful fans, ComingSoon.net has now reported that FOX Atomic, FOX’s teen-themed production title, has pulled the plug. The production was shut down after only two weeks when Atlanta’s Emory University changed its mind about allowing the movie to be filmed there. The report includes references to Peter Rice of this branch of FOX’s company being dissatisfied with the quality of what he was seeing in dailies, believing it fell short of his expectation for Atomic’s standard of film. That simply, it’s over before it really begun.
