Peter Jackson still on for the Hobbit?

Could this get any more confusing? A day ago we told you that Peter Jackson was kicked off the making of The Hobbit and the LOTR prequels, per TheOneRing.net and now all of a suddent its changing. Although NewLine kicked Peter Jackson off the project because MGM has owner ship as well they are saying hold on a second.
 
MGM told Variety that Peter Jackson is not a done deal. They indicate he is not kicked off the project and that the matter is still in discussion. Holy confusing. Needless to say the chances of seeing a Hobbit film seem to be getting slimmer and slimmer
