Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru movie is getting Remade

Variety is reporting that Dreamworks will be doing a remake of Akira Kurosawa's great 1952 film Ikiru. Jim Sheridan has signed on as the director and "Freedomland" author, Richard Price, will write the script. They are also planning for this to star Tom Hanks.

Sheridan will shoot Ikiru in Gotham. It's the story of a low-level bureaucrat who discovers that after 30 years in the same job, he's contracted stomach cancer. Determined to seek more from the remaining moments of his life, the man initially seeks out decadent pursuits before deciding he wants to leave behind something memorable.

Looks like their gonna slaughter another great film by remaking it. Especially by putting Tom Hanks as the star. This will be one of the movies that you see is playing and never go see but the "Academy" thinks is a classic. Sad really.
