All The King’s Men Special Edition DVD Dec 19th

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Steven Zaillian (Best Writing, Schindler’s List, 1993),  All The King’s Men arrives on a special edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc® from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on December 19. Critics are already buzzing about All the King’s Men and the Oscar®-worthy performance by Sean Penn.  All The King’s Men was inspired by the career of Louisiana governor, Huey P. Long and other important political figures. This adaptation of Robert Penn Warren’s 1947 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel boasts an all-star cast including Academy Award-winner Sean Penn (Best Actor, Mystic River, 2003), two-time Academy Award- nominee Jude Law (Best Actor, Cold Mountain, 2003; Best Supporting Actor, Talented Mr. Ripley,1999), four-time Academy Award-nominee Kate Winslet (Best Actress, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2004; Best Supporting Actress, Iris, 2001), Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins (Best Actor, Silence of the Lambs, 1991), three-time Emmy Award-winner James Gandolfini (TV’s Sopranos), Mark Ruffalo and Academy Award-nominee Patricia Clarkson (Best Supporting Actress, Pieces of April, 2003). 

All The King’s Men was one of the last major films shot in New Orleans before the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Locations were integral to the mood and texture of  All The King’s Men and the crew spent four months prior to filming in search of the perfect sites to authentically reflect the period and spirit of the film. In efforts to stay true to the book, many scenes from All The King’s Men were shot on location where the story’s events originally took place – on highways and bridges that Huey P. Long built and the famous state capitol he commissioned.

All The King’s Men tells the riveting story of an idealists’ rise to political power in the South during the 1940s and 50s. The story follows the rise and fall of charismatic politician, “Boss” Willie Stark (Sean Penn) and uses politics as the framework to explore the more profound dilemmas of human existence – sin, guilt and redemption.  It’s a complex and captivating story of human nature, power, corruption, idealism, romance and betrayal.  All The King’s Men explores the timelessness behind the loss of love, betrayal of friends and self discovery.
