Wah Wah on DVD November 21stPosted by: Michael From acclaimed actor Richard E. Grant (directorial debut—known for his acting roles in Gosford Park, L.A. Story and The Player) comes the bittersweet, semi-autobiographical dramedy Wah-Wah on DVD November 21 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Set in Swaziland in 1969, Wah-Wah tells the heartfelt story of how one British colonial family used the power of love and laughter to help them survive painful changes in their lives.
The film features a star-studded cast, including two-time Academy Award® nominees Emily Watson (Best Actress, Hilary & Jackie, 1998, and Best Actress, Breaking the Waves, 1996), Miranda Richardson (Best Actress, Tom & Viv, 1994, and Best Supporting Actress, Damage, 1992) and Julie Walters (Best Supporting Actress, Billy Elliot, 2000, and Best Actress, Educating Rita, 1983), as well as Gabriel Byrne (P.S., Vanity Fair, Miller’s Crossing) and Nicholas Hoult (About A Boy). Told through the eyes of young Ralph Compton (Nicholas Hoult), Wah-Wah is a “coming-of-age at the end of an age†story about the implosion of his parents’ loveless marriage during the end of British colonial rule. After witnessing his mother's adultery with his father's best friend, Ralph’s parents divorce and send him off to boarding school. When 14-year-old Ralph returns home several years later, he discovers that his father has re-married an American ex-air “hostess†named Ruby whom his father has known all of six weeks. Although initially wary of her, Ralph bonds with Ruby as his father’s drinking escalates and becomes dangerously out of control. It’s this chaos that stokes Ralph’s inner turmoil, shaping his outlook on life and giving rise to his creative mind. Ruby becomes his rock through those turbulent times, teaching Ralph how love and laughter really do conquer all. A charming and delightful film, Wah-Wah delivers hearty laughs and tender moments that will inspire audiences everywhere.
