Van Gogh on DVD January 9thPosted by: MichaelSony Pictures Home Entertainment announces the release of Van Gogh on DVD. This intriguing film, from Sony Pictures Classics, traces the final months of Vincent Van Gogh’s life. Van Gogh was written and directed by Maurice Pialat (à nos amours, Sous le soleil de Satan) and stars Jacques Dutronc (C’est la vie) and Alexandra London (J’ai horreur de l’amour). The DVD will be available on January 9, 2007
Van Gogh’s star, Jacques Dutronc, was awarded the prestigious César Award as Best Actor and the film was nominated for an additional 12 Césars, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Writing and Best Production Design. In addition, Van Gogh was nominated for the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
Vincent Van Gogh is responsible for some of the most iconic paintings of the 19th century including Sunflowers and Starry Night. Van Gogh’s tumultuous personal life has been an inspiration to artists in many different disciplines, including music and film. Director/Screenwriter Maurice Pialat’s critically acclaimed biography focuses mainly on the final months of Van Gogh’s life when he painted some of his most beautiful and famous paintings while navigating complex relationships with this brother and his patron’s daughter. Special features on the Van Gogh DVD will include deleted scenes and a teaser trailer.
