EXT THE CITY FROM AFAR DAY

MONTAGE: Showing that...

there are seven BRIDGES spanning the rivers. Six of them are BARRICADED and heavily guarded by MILITIA and MACHINE GUNS, ROCKET LAUNCHERS, TANKS.

DEAD THINGS are clustered by the thousands at the barricades, but they can't get through. A FEW try, and are MOWED DOWN.

The eastern base of the city triangle, against the hills, is less than a mile across. It is also heavily barricaded. There are four rows of electrified, barbed-wire fencing.

THE DEAD are clustered here, too, on the outside, but they are behaving more cautiously. They've learned that the fences bring a "second death", final death. All along the outer fence CORPSES hang suspended on electric barbs.

MILITARY MEN and WOMEN stand ever watchful.

MILITARY WOMAN
Stench! Ten o'clock!

OTHERS, nearby, look toward ten o'clock. A WALKER lumbers toward the fence. When it's hands touch the metal, SPARKS FLY! The Dead Thing's flesh is literally COOKED! BOILS develop, POPPING OPEN, emitting SMOKE. The Walker's HANDS are WELDED to the fencing. Still it remains un-destroyed, it remains animated.

MILITARY MAN.
Take his face off.

The military woman... "
