Medium Moves to Wednesdays

Patricia Arquette’s character Allison Dubois sees what others can’t, but perhaps not even the real life psychic on which her character is based could have foreseen the show making a sudden move to Wednesday nights at 10pm Eastern Time/9pm Central. NBC’s website for the show has made the news official. On November 15th, "Medium" will premiere in its new timeslot, taking the place of the struggling series "Kidnapped," which is being shuffled to Saturdays.

This move seems surprising given the success "Medium" has enjoyed its past two season on Monday nights at 10pm. Arquette earned herself an Emmy Award for her role on the series as well as a Golden Globe nomination, and ratings have been impressive to the network in the past, leading NBC towards a brighter future. The executives seem to have enough confidence in the show’s move and return for its third season, but it is anyone’s guess if this will bring on a dip that they can’t see coming.

The mid-week schedule seems to be garnering a lot of attention this year with many shows swarming around Wednesday and Thursday nights. "Grey’s Anatomy" made the move to Thursday, and it appears opposite CBS’ "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," FOX’s "The O.C.," and the latest show to tragically kill off Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character much to the dismay of his growing number of fans, the CW’s "Supernatural." The CW also has "Smallville" Thursday nights. And, now Wednesday’s are getting crowded with ABC’s "Lost" as the night’s heavyhitter, FOX’s "Bones," the CW’s "One Tree Hill," and CBS’ new series with mixed reviews "Jericho."

Then, "CSI: NY" lives in the Wednesday 10pm timeslow, which puts "Medium" on opposite the "CSI" franchise in what will undoubtedly bring some competition as while the two shows don’t target the exact same demographic, enough of their target audiences overlap. "Medium" is in its Junior year, and the network seems satisfied that it will premiere come back more powerful than ever before.
