Weta Will Give Silver Surfer Dimension

"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" has employed Weta Digital to create the effects for the franchises new star, the Silver Surfer. The appearance of the liquid-metallic, graceful-moving, and curvy-reflective Surfer will no doubt be tricky business, which is why Weta is the perfect company for the job. Weta's history is stunning with such features as "Contact," the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "I, Robot," and "King Kong." The phenomenal work turned out by Weta has garnered Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects for all three "Lord of the Rings" films as well as "King Kong," not to mention a nomination in the same category for "I, Robot."

Actor Doug Jones ("Adaptation," "Hellboy," and "Lady in the Water") will be providing the physical side as well as the motion for Weta's advanced motion capture technology to give the Surfer an added depth that will translate his unique appearance to the screen. While addressing fan concerns about who will play Silver Surfer and excitement that the Marvel character will be the subject of a film, Jones was quoted on SuperHeroHype.com as he reflected upon the digital figure that he will be giving life; "As my research into this character continues, I am falling more and more in love with him ... his valiance, his nobility, his stance for truth, hope, faith, and his history of self-sacrifice."
