Weekend Box Office Results 9-24-06Posted by: ShawnWelcome again to the Weekend Box Office Report. This weekend we can see that the clear dominant victor is Johnny Knoxville and his band of foolish dare-devils in their second stunt and prank filled feature film "Jackass: Number Two". Jet Li gets a decent opening for his "final" epic film "Fearless" but comparing it's $10 million with "Jackass'" $28 million is quite surprising. Well I guess it just means that everyone was in a mood to watch some senseless mayhem, not that there is anything wrong with that. Gridiron Gang drops to third place, but actually grosses only a few million short of last week ($14 million to this week's $10 million). The big budget plane dog-fighting movie "Flyboys" gets a release that is likely to upset a few big-wigs at the studios. It's $6 million take this weekend has barely put a dent in it's $60 million price-tag. Don't expect "Flyboys 2" any time soon.
Next week we see the openings of the animated "Open Season", the Kevin Costner / Ashton Kutcher drama "The Guardian", and Jon Heder / Billy Bob Thornton's "School for Scoundrels" all get to see the light of day. Based on current reviews and the likeability of the actors I'm going to guess that "School for Scoundrels" will be the top grossing of the three (Jackass may still take the #1 spot on next weekend's list). Though it's going to be a close race that's for sure. "Open Season" is the most anticipated animated film since "Monster House" and offers humor that will actually appeal to adults as well as the kiddo's. "The Guardian" has two big names attached, but in my opinion the story offers little of interest.
Til next week.
