Star Trek Enterprise (Season 3) Movie Review

Posted by: Michael

I missed out on seeing season one of enterprise so I cant say how it was, but Season two was a huge dissapointment. Somehow I still managed to sit down for season 3 and I gotta say.. what a pleasure it was to see the changes.

In season two it was all disney and puff and powder. Nothing exciting happened, they wandered aimlessly around the galaxy having inter-galactic social commentary. There were one or two good episodes but for the most part season 2 was boring, and not at all a true blue start trek series.

Now season 3 evolves around a group called the zindi ( spelling ? ) who just kicked the crap out of Earth and wiped out 7million people. Why? Well a group calling themselves the guardians have convinced the zindi that in the future mankind will massacre them all so they must strike first. Of course there is more to this story then meets the eye. For in Star Trek mankind would NEVER do such an evil thing as wipe out another race or species... Anyrate the zindi killed 7 million and now they are coming back to repeat it and this time wipe out mankind for good. ::::Cue Evil Laugh::::

In this season there was ALOT more carnage and alot more deaths. Over 20% of the crew gets killed in the space battles and excursions they get into. The Enterprise itself gets pretty much destroyed in the final episodes. It was nice to see alot more sci-fi action in this sci-fi series but in some aspects it was a bit over done with the same space battles over and over again.

Captain Archer and his crew in Season 3 now have a mission, and it should be obvious. To hunt down and destroy the ultimate weapon that could destroy Earth! Ok so get ready.. I got some cheese for you now. As much as Enterprise Season 3 had more action in it, it had some very serious cheese. For example the planet killing weapon. It basically is a rip off of the death star from star wars. Yeah not very creative. Add to that the "council" and you get a really bad Jedi feeling. A council of zindi who sit and decide the future of mankind while using a death star like weapon just stank of Star Wars.

Despite this though Enterprise Season 3 was much better then season 2. Their wasnt the same fear of killing people, or showing some gore. Ok so it wasnt gore so to speak as much as no fear to have people bleed, get incinerated and just generally get beat to hell without your candy puff portrayals.

There was also alot more character development. We will all remember the uber hottie vulcan Dupal from season 2 with the KILLER body, well she is back of course.

This season she wears alot less clothes and you get to see more of her as a person. There is some seriously suggestive scenes with alot of skin and yes... Tripp finally gets lucky! I like the Dupal character, she is a talented actor and her characters inner conflicts over emotion are well done. I will admit I really got involved with her character on an emotional level.

You get to learn more about Tripp, Captain Archer and alot of the various characters and by the end of the season you actually will find yourself attached to some of them. I hope that in Season 4 they will continue to be creative and break the mould of Season 2, the series momentum is growing I hope it continues.

Overall I give the series a 8 because the writing was improved, there were some great episodes and at the end of the series I actually was looking for another disk to continue my adventures with Captain Archer. It is obvious to me they learned something from Season 2 and worked hard to try and get the sci-fi crowd interested in the show. Season 2 was not a sci-fi series. It was social commentary and democracy on a space ship. I look forward to seeing season 4 to see if this forward trend continues and if they continue to realize as a Sci-Fi series we expect sci-fi. Trek fans will appreciate Season 3.
