Sleuth (1972 Version) Movie ReviewPosted by: Rainbow Ray
Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier are excellent in this psychological test of nerves classic; "Sleuth" kept me glued to my seat throughout its entirety and after having watched it all I can say is "Wow! This was one great, excititng and suspenseful flick". One day, Olivier invites his hairdresser friend (well played by Caine) to his private mansion out in the country. He does this after finding out that his good friend is having marital tryste with his wife. When the two get together, slowly the movie builds up to a test of "wits" between the two as they both try to use threats and "pscycological warfare" in order to outdo the other. I can go more, but then I would spoil it because it really is one terrific movie and those who enjoy psychological thrillers will certainly enjoy this one (those who don't I believe will like it too, if they give it a chance). The dialogue and timing are brilliant (timing is everything not only in comedies, but also with thrillers like "Sleuth). The directing was exceptional as the movie flowed throughout, leaving out no room for intentional boredom. The ending was well thought out and presented. I recently saw the remake from 2007 (starring Michael Caine and Jude Law) and although they did their best, the original I found to be far superior in terms of how the film was presented, written and directed. I bet your intersted in watching "Sleuth", I know you are because your wife/girlfriend told me. Oh yes she did; that's why she's in love with me and not you. So just go and watch this movie and forget the fact that every one of them is in love with me (ha! ha!). Psyche! (great movie). Click Here to Contribute your Own Review.
