Drillbit Taylor (Unrated Extended Survival Edition) Movie ReviewPosted by: MichaelHad a chance to checkout an early copy of DrillBit Taylor on DVD ( there are copies up for grabs on the site so be sure to enter that contest ) and have to say overall its a fun teen flick that delivers a reasonable element of humor, fun and drama. The premise is quite funny and something I am sure that many teens would have loved to of done. To hire a body guard to protect you from the bully. Ryan (Troy Gentile), Wade (Nate Hartley) and Emmit (David Dorfman) attend their first day at high school and they're pumped...until they meet up with Filkins (Alex Frost), a school bully who comes off like a little Hannibal Lecter. Before they become completely engulfed in Filkins' reign of terror, they seek out some protection by placing an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine. Their best response - and the cheapest - comes from Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), a down-on-his luck soldier of fortune who lives a homeless - he likes to say "home-free" - existence on the beach. He enrolls them in some physical and mental training. Written by Seth Rogen although its a funny movie it does not hold a candle to Super Bad or other projects he has been involved in. Without question it has its moments and Owen Wilson delivers as Drillbit Taylor a fraud of a body guard who manages to almost get himself killed by the school bully in the process of protecting the kids. DrillBit feel like a formula buddy picture but it has good writing, some reasonable acting and some really funny moments. The 'gotta learn to take a punch' scene had me in stitches and without question the final sequence of 'hes 18... kick his ass' made the movie well worth picking up. I would say if you like Seth Rogens past films or are a fan of Owen Wilson you will want to go pick this one out. It doesnt offer any deep thinking but it does give you something to laugh at.
