Charlotte's Web, the 1952 classic by E.B. White with timeless illustrations by Garth Williams, is the best-selling children's paperback of all time. To date, the book has sold 45 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 23 languages.
This classic story centers on an unusual friendship between a shy, yet joyous pig named Wilbur and a caring spider named Charlotte. The runt of his litter, Wilbur is adopted by 8-year-old Fern, under whose care he flourishes, growing big, strong, and healthy. Unfortunately, Wilbur’s progress means that he faces what seems like an unavoidable trip to the smokehouse. Determined to save her friend and barnmate, Charlotte comes up with a daring plan.
On the morning of Wilbur’s planned trip to the slaughterhouse, the farmer enters the pigpen to see Wilbur standing beneath the mysterious words, "Some Pig!" woven into Charlotte’s web. Convinced this is a miracle and that Wilber is indeed an extraordinary animal, the farmer decides that Wilbur is too valuable to make into ham and pork chops. When Wilbur has his chance, he finds a loving way to return Charlotte's kindness.
A tale of friendship and renewal featuring a motley crew of barnyard characters, Charlotte’s Web is a tribute to everyday miracles.
Walden Media is joining Nickelodeon Movies, Kerner Entertainment, and Paramount Studios as a producer on the new live-action/CG animation adaptation of E.B. White’s Charlotte's Web.
First brought to the big screen in animation in 1973, White’s story is now brought to life by director Gary Winick (13 Going on 30) from a script by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) and Karey Kirkpatrick (James and the Giant Peach, Chicken Run, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).
Julia Roberts will voice the role of Charlotte. Oprah Winfrey and Cedric The Entertainer will voice the story's geese. Other vocal talent includes John Cleese as a sheep; Steve Buscemi as Templeton the rat; Reba McEntire and Kathy Bates as cows; and Thomas Haden Church and Andre (3000) Benjamin as crows. Dakota Fanning stars as Fern. Now filming on location in Melbourne, Australia.
