Tom Savini
Viewed, 6416x, Last Updated Tom Savini is one of the most popular icons in the annals of horror history. He was born on November 3rd 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Inspired by the film "Man of a Thousand Faces", a young Tom Savini became fascinated with the magic and illusion of film. He spent his youth in his room creating characters by tirelessly practicing make-up. In "The American Nightmare" (a Documentary from 2000), Savini reveals that his grueling experiences in Vietnam (all the real killings he saw as a Combat-Photographer) inspired him for his special effects work. During the years, he worked with cult directors like George A. Romero, Dario Argento, Tobe Hopper and Brian Yuzna. He pioneered special effects and SFX make-up techniques on such films as "Martin", "Dawn of the Dead", "Friday the 13th" (Part 1+4), "Creepshow" (1+2), "Trauma", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2", and "Killing Zoe". After working for Directors, he started to work as a Director himself. He directed the remake of George Romero's "Night of the living Dead", numerous episodes of "Tales from the Darkside", and his own special stage production of "Bram Stoker's Dracula". As an actor, he has worked on such movies as "Knightriders", both versions of "Dawn of the Dead", "From Dusk till Dawn", "Children of the living Dead", "Creepshow 2" and even for the TV-Series "The Simpsons". If anybody needs someone to scare people really bad, Tom Savini is the man.
