Mary Lambert

Like David Fincher, filmmaker Mary Lambert started her career by directing Madonna's music videos. In the early days of MTV, she directed "Borderline," "Material Girl," and, eventually, the groundbreaking video for "Like a Prayer." She also did videos for Janet Jackson and Bobby Brown, as well as commercials, video games, and Saturday Night Live shorts. Unfortunately, she was never able to translate her talents to the big screen like several of her contemporaries.

In 1987, she made her feature film debut with the mysterious psychological thriller Siesta. Starring Ellen Barkin, Gabriel Byrne, and Julian Sands, the film was nominated at the Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature. Lambert then chose to steer her career toward the safe commercial route for her next features, the horror flicks Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary Two. For the rest of the '90s, she did made-for-TV movies and various trashy thrillers.

On television, she directed an episode of HBO's Tales From the Crypt, Showtime's Drive-In Classics, and VH1's version of the Twilight Zone, Strange Frequency. Her last two movies, Clubland (shot with a handheld camera following around aspiring musicians in L.A.) and The In Crowd (teen thriller starring a soap opera star) were both met with unfavorable reviews.

Filmography: Pet Sematary, The Attic (2006), Urban Legends: Bloody Mary,
