MARCIA GAY HARDEN won the 2001 Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Lee Krasner opposite Ed Harris in POLLOCK. She also won a New York Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for the role. Harden received a second nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Clint Eastwood’s MYSTIC RIVER. She received the Spirit of Sundance Award for her performance in THE SPITFIRE GRILL, which also won the audience award at the festival. Born in La Jolla, California, Harden graduated from the University of Texas with a B.A. in Theater and went on to earn an MFA from the graduate theatre program at NYU.
Her first major film role was in the Coen Brothers’ acclaimed MILLER’S CROSSING, opposite Albert Finney, Gabriel Byrne and John Turturro. Her other films include: LATE FOR DINNER, CRUSH, USED PEOPLE, SAFE PASSAGE, THE DAYTRIPPERS, THE SPITFIRE GRILL, SPY HARD, THE FIRST WIVES CLUB, FAR HARBOR, FLUBBER, DESPERATE MEASURES, MEET JOE BLACK, SPACE COWBOYS, GAUDI AFTERNOON, CASA DE LOS BABYS, MONA LISA SMILE, WELCOME TO MOOSEPORT, P.S., BAD NEWS BEARS, AMERICAN GUN, and AMERICAN DREAMZ. Harden’s numerous television appearances include the CBS miniseries “Sinatra” (as Ava Gardner),“King of Texas,” “The Education of Max Bickford,” “Small Vices,” “Thin Air,” “Guilty Hearts,” “Hate,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Harden was featured on Broadway in Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Angels in America,” which earned her a Tony nomination, a Drama Desk Award and a Theater World Award. She also starred in David Rabe’s “Those the River Keeps,” and the NY Public Theatre’s production of “The Seagull.” Upcoming film roles for Harden are CANVAS, Lasse Hallström’s THE HOAX, and THE INVISIBLE.
