Lamberto Bava

Born in Rome on the 3rd of April 1944, Lamberto Bava is probably one of the most hatred directors ever. Probably regarding his father Mario Bava (hatred yesterday and reknown as a true auteur today), but also because of what some people say of his lack of visual style (unlike his father).

After being his father first assistant on every movie since "Terrore nello Spazio", he began collaborating to the screenplay of "Shock" and also the one of "La venere d’ille".

He made his first move in 1980 by writing and directing "Macabro" (a.k.a."Frozen Terror") where his obsession with houses hiding horrible secrets, explodes on the screen. Then he changed his style and went on directing B-gems like "Devilfish" and "Blastfighter". They are total exploitation movies and aimed at a special US and European market but always fun to watch. Lamberto Bava is much better at writing screenplays he directs ("Frozen Terror", "Shock" co-directed with his father, "A Blade in the Dark"), and he sometimes lets himself go "Demons" and "Demons 2", where he got there a certain visual style that gives the horror movies true gems.

He's also an actor sometimes. For his own "Graveyard Disturbance" and for Ivano Zingarellis's "Evocandus" (2000).

Lamberto Bava is the father of Fabrizio Bava. After some cinema studies in the US, Fabricio is now his father's assistant on his movies and TV series since "Il Principe del Terrore".

From 1987 on, Lamberto concentrated on working for television. He made 8 made-for-TV horror chillers until 1990 and then turned to fantasy movies (mostly for children).

Filmography: A Blade In The Dark, Demons, Demons 2, Ghost Son, Kidnapped (1974), Macabre, Tenebre,
