David J. Francis

David J Francis has been in the entertainment industry for many years. He began at the age of seven by creating comedy and horror stories on the ancient medium of cassette tape. He later went on to join his high school theatre and began acting in plays both at school and in amateur theatre. Thanks to his influential drama teacher Wendy Gibb, he was soon on stage throughout the region, performing stand up comedy. David continued his education in the theatre at Algonquin College where he learned much about the practical aspect of the business he had chosen to live. He later attended the University of Ottawa where he studied the more theoretical side of the arts industry and was introduced to the University television show TV Zoom.

At TV Zoom he volunteered as a cameraman and began working up to seventy hours a week in addition to a full time job, part time job and full time university studies. Within two years he was producing, writing, hosting, shooting and editing the successful sketch comedy show. It was on this show that David and Amber met. Six years later they married. When David and Amber moved to Toronto, Dave immersed himself in the film industry and was soon introduced to many individuals who shared the same interest in creating a feature horror film, one of whom was Lindsay Stewart the co-writer of the screenplay Primal.

Throughout his life, David has felt that very few of the "successful" horror films of his generation were truly of the horror genre, but more in the shocker or thriller line. His belief that the movie going audience was demanding a true Horror film and the nightmares that had been developing in his mind gave birth to the concept and story for the feature film scripts Zombie Night, Siege of the Zombies and Primal. As David once said, "Every grownup sometimes feels fear simply walking up the basement stairs… and loves it!" He believes that the one type of film suspiciously missing from the movie theatres is that of terror. Apparently the big screens are waiting for his dream.
