Brian Trenchard Smith
Viewed, 2698x, Last Updated DC 9/11 is the fifth project Brian Trenchard-Smith has directed for Showtime and his thirty-second movie in as many years. His films for Showtime, like the rest of his work, range across every genre. A remake of the World War II classic "SAHARA" starring James Belushi was followed by Andrew McCarthy in "ESCAPE CLAUSE", a suspense thriller critical of the insurance industry. The true crime black comedy "HAPPY FACE MURDERS", which Brian describes as "Rashomon meets Fargo by the way of Twin Peaks" starred Ann Margaret, Marg Helgenberger and Henry Thomas and was Showtime’s highest rated original movie for 14 months. "SIGHTINGS - HEARTLAND GHOST" starring Beau Bridges told the story behind the most famous poltergeist investigation ever conducted by the Sightings T.V. Series.
"True stories and historical drama fascinate me, so DC 9/11 is my dream project. Ten days that changed America and the world meticulously researched, lavishly mounted and seen through the eyes of a sitting administration. It’s a huge challenge and a great responsibility, and I’m loving every minute of it."
Brian Trenchard-Smith
A film lover from childhood, Brian enjoys directing films of every genre, from wacky horror comedies like "NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2"and "LEPRECHAUN IN VEGAS" to prize winning children’s films like "FROG DREAMING" and "BMX BANDITS" which was Nicole Kidman’s first film. Brian says: "It was obvious from the first shot, Nicole had star quality". His UFO drama "OFFICIAL DENIAL" earned an Environmental Media Award nomination and his recent action-thriller "SECONDS TO SPARE" rated strongly for USA Cable.
Brian was a founding editor of Australia’s "Movie" magazine, a 60 page glossy which he ran for six years. He also made most of Australia’s trailers throughout the 70’s and 80’s. A life long fencer, Brian is proficient in foil, sabre and epee and often gives lessons on the set to interested cast and crew. After "DC 9/11", what is the next epic slice of history he would like to do? "The Crusades, told from both a Christian and a Muslim perspective. If we don’t learn from the mistakes of history, we are condemned to repeat them. That’s why historical drama should be an important ingredient in everyone’s television diet."
DC 9/11 is scheduled to be shown on the Showtime Network on September 7th. Filmography: DC 9/11 - Time of Crisis, Leprechaun 3, Leprechaun 4: In Space, Leprechaun in the Hood, Night of the Demons 2, The Man from Hong Kong, Tides of War (Phantom Below), Latest Brian Trenchard Smith News, Opinion & Discussion:
