ALEXANDER SIDDIG is well-known to television viewers for his five-year-long leading role as Dr. Bashir on the long-running Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as well as his dramatic recurring role as Hamri Al-Assad on the 2007 season of the award-winning 24, opposite Kiefer Sutherland.

Born in the Sudan, Siddig was raised in England and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where he studied acting and theater. Following graduation, he performed and directed in regional theater, breaking into motion pictures with his role as Emir Faisal, opposite Ralph Fiennes’ T.E. Lawrence, in A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia. This led to his being cast in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

After his successful television run, feature film roles quickly followed, including Martin Campbell’s Vertical Limit, Andy Tennant’s Last First Kiss, Rob Bowman’s Reign of Fire and Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven, among others. More recently, he starred in Steven Gaghan’s award-winning Syriana, opposite George Clooney and Matt Damon, and as the angel Gabriel in Catherine Hardwicke’s The Nativity Story. Recent television roles include the title role in Hannibal: Rome’s Worst Nightmare, a controversial guest spot on U.K.’s Spooks (MI-5 in the U.S.) and a turn on the popular Poirot (episode entitled “Cards on the Table”). He also starred opposite Kim Cattrall in the recent London West End production of Whose Life Is It Anyway?
