DOOMSDAY is the first big-screen sci-fi thriller for ADRIAN LESTER and writer/director Neil Marshall took full advantage of Lester’s love of martial arts—the actor holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

This year will also see Lester star alongside Renée Zellweger in Case 39 and Frank Langella in Starting Out in the Evening; he will also headline in a new major BBC 1 drama, Bonekickers.

Lester’s international movie career was launched after director Mike Nichols spotted him and offered him the lead role of Henry in the blockbuster Primary Colors, alongside John Travolta and Emma Thompson. Since then, Lester has enjoyed a series of diverse and successful roles on the big screen, including Maybe Baby, The Day After Tomorrow, Born Romantic, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Dust, The Final Curtain, Scenes of a Sexual Nature, As You Like It,Best and the hard-hitting, award-winning TV drama Storm Damage.

He has also become a household name for his portrayal of Mickey in the popular BBC series Hustle, guest-starred in a double bill of the popular TV series The Ghost Squad (Channel 4), traveled back to his roots in the Channel 4 series Empire’s Children and will be appearing as a vampire called Herrick in the BBC drama Being Human.

Lester, 39, trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and soon became one of the most celebrated actors in the West End. His extensive theater experience has included major roles in Sweeney Todd, Company, As You Like It, Six Degrees of Separation, Kiss of the Spider Woman, A Winter’s Tale and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and he has garnered countless awards and nominations for his performances. Lester also received critical acclaim for an impressive portrayal of Henry V at the National Theatre, directed by Nicholas Hytner, and Hamlet at the Bouffes du Nord, directed by Peter Brook.

Lester is married to actress Lolita Chakrabarti. He has two daughters and lives in South London.
