Before they’ve even finished work on their proposed “Ratchet and Clank” movie, Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment have announced that video game raccoon Sly Cooper will be the subject of their next movie.
The announcement came today by way of a new teaser trailer which shows Sly, Murray, and Bentley in the middle of a caper… of sorts. You can view the trailer below which features a fully voiced cast and will give you an idea of how the characters will be represented on the big screen. As someone who has a casual relationship with Sly Cooper, I can only say that it looks like they have a solid grasp on the characters. Though fans seem to be taking issue with the costume changes.
The film is being written and directed by Kevin Munroe, who previously handled the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” CGI film from back in 2007.
According to Variety, the movie will follow the story of the first game:
Sly learns of his birth family’s secret legacy that he comes from a long line of talented and international thieves. Sly and his friends race to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding the Cooper clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of an evil Russian metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line
Which means, if the film is successful, we could easily see a quadrilogy of films as there are currently four games in the series. “Sly Cooper” is expected to hit theaters in 2016. Meanwhile, “Ratchet and Clank” is expected to be in theaters by 2015.
