If there’s one thing I love about Disney films it’s the villains. They get the best songs, they always have ridiculously evil plots, and they usually just look so cool. Villains are too damn fun, but can you base a whole movie around a Disney villain?
Disney’s “Maleficent” is forcing the iconic villain to step out from the shadows and to take center stage in her own live-action film. Angelina Jolie will take on the role of the evil sorceress in a movie that will attempt to cast the character in a whole new light.
A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal — an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom — and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
In the preview below we get a bit more footage than what was seen previously in the first trailer. The narrator and the presentation of this trailer might come off as cheesy, but that’s mostly because this was specially made for the Disney Channel. It’s a trailer designed to appeal to kids, but it is a little off-putting. Check it out below and let us know what you think.
“Maleficent” hits theaters on May 30, 2014.
