Here’s an interesting exercise that is somewhat reminiscent of a popular Garfield parody. What would happen to “Fight Club” if Tyler Durden was digitally removed?
If you’ve never seen David Fincher’s “Fight Club”, you might be wondering why someone would remove Tyler Durden in the first place. To that I say: Go watch “Fight Club”. Trust me on this one.
Reddit user “tramdog” took a scene from the 90’s classic and used a bit of digital wizardry to remove Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden from the scene altogether. What we’re left with is Edward Norton rambling to himself like a mad man and fighting ghosts. Check it out below.
It may seem a little choppy, but that’s because “tramdog” removed some of the longer beats where Brad Pitt would be talking. Personally, I kind of wish he had left those moments in. It would have gone a long way to highlight the madness of Norton’s character listening patiently to nothing. Now I have an insatiable curiosity to see the rest of “Fight Club” done this way, but I imagine that sort of editing would go well beyond a weekend project.
