Director In Talks For Guardians Of The Galaxy

Director In Talks For Guardians Of The GalaxyAnnounced on the heels Marvel’s success with THE AVENGERS was the big screen adaptation of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. I know that I have absolutely no knowledge of who these characters are, but given my excitement for THE AVENGERS and the many other comic book movies the property is now at least on my radar, but I appear to not be alone in my knowledge as the idea to bring this property to the big screen seems to have taken plenty of people by surprise.

Well now that we at least know the project is moving forward, for now, maybe it’s about time we get even more insight to the probability of the film becoming a reality by announcing a director. Nothing has been finalized, for for right now James Gunn is said to be in talks to direct the film. Gunn is the director of SLITHER and the KICK-ASS-esque SUPER and given his off-beat filmography seems to be another surprising direction. I love SUPER and the overall vibe that James Gunn gives off so I’m digging the idea of him getting his hands on a big budget studio film, but I have to say I didn’t quite see that coming.

Marvel has sequels for all their big properties on the horizon such as IRON MAN 3, THOR: THE DARK WORLD and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER before the 2015 release of their sequel to THE AVENGERS so GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will be their chance to introduce something new to the universe as well. The biggest question will be if the sequels will have any shot of success outside of THE AVENGERS now that audiences are used to seeing the heroes together and if this new property will have any recognition to the crowd that comes to Marvel’s movies or even have the interest in a post-AVENGERS world.

What do you think of James Gunn possibly directing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?
