Lionsgate Releases The First Clip From The Hunger Games

Today Lionsgate has released the first clip from THE HUNGER GAMES. We’ve gotten to take a look at a few different trailers with a variety of short glimpses of footage from the film and now you can feast your eyes on some extended footage below. The clip is a scene almost directly from the book where Katniss is placed in front of the Gamemakers that control the Hunger Games and each tribute gets a one on one session in front of them to showcase their skills and the Gamemakers rate each tribute based on their skill level. Katniss is a very skilled hunter with her bow so in the clip she nails one of the dummies in the center of the target but when she turns around no one is paying attention to her and are instead clamoring over a stuffed pig that they plan to devour. Katniss then sees an opportunity to really get their attention takes aim and fires an arrow into the group nailing the apple in the pigs mouth and turning everyone’s head including the head Gamemaker’s played by Wes Bentley.

I dig the clip and the music at the beginning is a nice touch. There’s no direct dialogue outside of the chattering among the crowd that is supposed to be watching Katniss do her thing. It’s not a real great way to gauge how the rest of the film is going to be overall, but with each bit of footage they release I’m getting more and more confident the film could end up being pretty great. THE HUNGER GAMES was directed by Gary Ross and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland. The film hits theaters on March 23, 2012.

What do you think of the first clip from THE HUNGER GAMES?
