One remake I am quite positive no one was really asking for was another shot at THE THING. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but I was perfectly satisfied as I thought everyone was that John Carpenter’s version was pretty spectacular. Yet here we are, with a first time director, a cast lead by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olson and Joel Edgerton as well as a new trailer and a poster. It’s mid July and there’s been tons of holdups regarding this remake, but according to the trailer and the poster, THE THING will be hitting theaters this October (October 14, 2011 according to IMDB).
So let me come out and say that I had little to no interest in this remake. Would I have seen it anyway, probably, but I wasn’t excited and I probably would have been predisposed to hate it. So, with that said, I really dig the poster and the trailer while not fantastic, is not near as terrible as I’d imagined it being. Actually, for the majority of the first minute or more it is about as bad as I’d imagined offering only a more polished look with an extremely generic cast. When we get more of a glimpse of the action, I have started having a very small glimmer of hope for the film. I still don’t think this is going to stand up to Carpenter’s vision, but I’ve started to back down only slightly that this might not COMPLETLEY suck.
What do you guys think of the new poster and trailer?
