Matt Reeves Says We Will See Cloverfield 2

Matt Reeves Says We Will See Cloverfield 2Fans have been speculating for a couple years about the possibility of seeing a sequel to Matt Reeves’ hit monster movie, CLOVERFIELD. When the teaser trailer for SUPER 8 was rumored people wondered if that was going to be the reveal of the sequel. As we know now, that’s not the case, but in an interview with Total Film Reeves spilled the beans that he along with Drew Goddard and JJ Abrams are all working on a sequel, with Goddard writing the script as he did on the first. A couple excerpts from the chat are as follows:

“the three of us have been so busy that getting the right idea together has been taking a long time.”

“We have a lot of affection for the original and the sequel can’t just be the same thing. But that is tricky when you need to have a monster destroying stuff once again.”

The first film got a lot of buzz due to the secretive filming and release process and the incredible first trailer that was released that didn’t even say the title of the film. I remember seeing the trailer in front of TRANSFORMERS (the first one) and being blown away and coming away thinking it was a new GODZILLA movie. I searched for weeks trying to figure out what it was all about and when the film came out I absolutely loved the experience.

Reeves has since proven to be a very capable director with his remake of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN which was entitled LET ME IN. Abrams has been building a very reputable resume so I have nothing but confidence that the trio of Goddard, Reeves and Abrams will come up with something great to captivate movie fans across the world once again. What are your thoughts on the possibility of a CLOVERFIELD sequel?
