British director, Gareth Edwards’ low budget sci fi movie MONSTERS will be on DVD and Blu Ray in the coming weeks; but the big news today is that Edwards is in negotiations to direct the next incarnation of the classic movie monster Godzilla. Edwards will be directing the film for Legendary Pictures with distribution being handled by Warner Bros.
Edwards’ approach with MONSTERS I think will be an interesting choice to bring Godzilla back to the big screen. Thomas Tull, John Jashni, Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Bryan Rogers will all be producing and a writer has not yet been named. It’ll be interesting to see if Edwards can take his slick special effects capabilities that he showed in MONSTERS and fine tune them a bit more with what will most likely be a pretty bloated budget; check out The Hollywood Reporter blog for more details on the project.
