Yesterday brought you Andrew Garfield as Spidey, today brings you Chris Evans as Captain America. After checking the official statbook, I’ve see that these movies are now 2 for 2 in the superhero costume department. In particular, this Cap suit.
To those of you who aren’t aware, Captain America’s origins go back to World War II where he battled Nazis. The whole point was for our military to have a super soldier that blatantly wore the colors of the United States as a way to combat Nazi propaganda. This movie takes place in the 1940s and this suit really is perfect for that time period. It looks a bit futuristic, but also very much a soldier’s uniform from that period. I’m a big fan of the helmet in particular, especially the leather chin strap. The whole thing just has a fantastic nostalgic look to it.
Now that I’ve done far too much analyzing of this suit, let’s move on to the two guys behind Cap. They look suspiciously like HYDRA soldiers from the comic books (Yes, I read Captain America comics in the 1980s when I was a kid, big whoop). Or maybe A.I.M. guys? I haven’t picked up a comic book in 20 years, so you may have to help me out a bit. Am I on the right track here? Didn’t the bad guy group HYDRA come from surviving Nazi’s or some such?
Also, I’m fully aware that last paragraph costs me at least 150 cool points.
