New Spider-Man Casting: Spider-Man’s Parents and Another Villain

New Spider Man Casting: Spider Mans Parents and Another Villain Usually with all this big superhero casting news we’re all about the majors: who’s playing the hero, the love interest and the villain? Which is a shame, because there’s potential for lots of great roles in these movies that don’t involve putting on a costume. Look at Jon Favreau as Foggy Nelson in Daredevil. Say what you will about the movie itself (I could write a verrry long essay about it), but that’s a great casting decision

Which brings me to the Spider-Man movie. A few weeks ago we reported that Peter Parker’s parents were going to be the film. Now, thanks to the Heat Vision Blog, we have casting news for Mr. and Mrs. Parker: Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson.

Ta-da! But seriously, allow me to illuminate: Scott is from such shows as Royal Pains and Damages and Nicholson was a detective in the last season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. That’s the one with Vincent D’Onofrio.

That’s not all: there’s going to be another villain in the film, a guy named Van Atter, to be played by Irrfan Khan, who was the police detective in Slumdog Millionaire. Annie Parisse (of Rubicon) will play his wife.

Van Atter will probably be one of those businessman villain types, but Comic Book Movie postulates that Van Atter could be Niles Van Atter, a character who becomes the mutated villain Proto-Goblin. I think that, paired with the Lizard, it would be too many mutants, but we’ll see.
