Two More Pirates of the Caribbean Movies

It’s still over half a year to go till the release of the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” installment – “On Stranger Tides” – but Disney already shows some incredible confidence in its big success, hinting that two more films may be added to the already long adventure saga, according to HitFix sources.

Disproving the previous rumors that the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow and whoever he hangs out/fights with may end with the fourth movie, Drew McWeeny reported that: “Disney has begun quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot Pirates 5 and Pirates 6. And, yes, once again, they will be shooting them back-to-back as one giant film, and then they’ll release them as two films.”

To be honest, when I read this at first, I almost gave out a howl: “Noooooo!” It’s not that I have anything against pirates as such or Disney for that matter. But, what I care about is seeing Johnny Deep employ his impressive acting talent in VERSATILE roles. And being constantly engaged in Pirates, he hardly has any time for any other projects that occasionally pop up as “rumored” on his IMDB page, and later quietly disappear.

I actually enjoyed the first movie – mainly due to Captain Jack Sparrow’s hippie pirate. And, as everyone knows, Depp was also the only reason why the film based on a Disneyland attraction was such a smash hit. Due to the latter, one or two sequels were inevitable – I give you that – but as it turned out, those were fit strictly for one-time viewing. Sparrow was still the only original presence, and since we were familiar with him already, it just came down to a typical Disney adventure story. Part 3, in fact, has gotten so surreal (the best thing about it was the awesome trained monkey), that one could only wonder where it could go from there.

It went of course to “Stranger Tides,” in which Sparrow and Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), set out in search of a mysterious “Fountain of Youth” – only to discover that Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and his daughter (Penelope Cruz) are after it too. Judie Dench, model Gemma Ward and Jack Sparrow’s own dad – fabulous Keith Richards are also onboard, which is great, apart from the fact that there was no real need for that movie.

Pirates 4 come out on May 20 next year, and the evil part of me really makes me hope it would miserably fail at the box-office. Because it’s the only thing that can stop Disney.
