Netflix Canada Adds Hundreds of New Titles

Netflix Canada Adds Hundreds of New TitlesGood news for our canadian readers who have been complaining about the lack of selection on Netflix. Readers have pointed out to me that American Netflix subscribers have far more selection on the video on demand and it seems Netflix Canada is working hard to address that. Netflix today announced licensing agreements with a range of leading content providers that adds hundreds of new titles that Canadian Netflix members can watch instantly on their computers and TVs.  The agreements add significantly to the growing selection of movies and TV episodes that can be streamed instantly from Netflix for only $7.99 a month following the launch of the company’s service in Canada in late September.

Many of the new titles are available now and others will be made available over the next few weeks. Among the highlights, Netflix members in Canada will be able to instantly watch:

  • •Seasons 1 and 2 of the Emmy® Award-winning television series “Weeds,” which follows a single mom (Mary-Louise Parker) as she progresses from a small town pot dealer to a big time player in the drug trade, from Maple Pictures; season 1 of Sony’s “The Big C,” which tells the story of a suburban mom, diagnosed with cancer, who tries to find humor in the disease; and season 1 of the Emmy-nominated television series “Undercover Boss,” which follows senior executives working undercover in their own firms to investigate the inner workings of the companies, distributed by New Video for All3Media International.
  • Seasons 1 through 4 of the epic and critically-acclaimed hit TV series “The Tudors,” starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry the 8th; season 1 of the popular Canadian television show “Men with Brooms,” an offbeat comedy that follows a reunited curling team from a small Canadian town; and seasons 1 and 2 of “Republic of Doyle,” the Canadian comedy-drama that follows a father and son duo who partner as private investigators.  Season 2 of “Republic of Doyle” will be available from Netflix the day after episodes air on the CBC in Canada.  All of these shows are being licensed from the CBC.
  • “Best of” episodes and the last two complete seasons of Global TV’s “Saturday Night Live,” and seasons 1 through 5 of the Canadian hit “The Kids in the Hall.”
  • Seasons 1 and 2 of the action-packed drama “Merlin,” which tells the story of the young wizard Merlin and the future king, Prince Arthur – available in the first half of 2011, and seasons 1 and 2 of “Pulling” the popular comedy that follows the lives of three single females living in London, all from FremantleMedia Enterprises.

“Adding to the choice of content we offer our members is an ongoing focus for Netflix in Canada,” said Kelly Merryman, vice president of content acquisition for Netflix.  “TV content continues to be extremely popular with our members, and we believe that they will be delighted with the expanding list of critically acclaimed and popular TV series available to watch instantly.”

  1. nearly lost interest

I don’t get why Dexter is available in the US but not here. Hey instead of $7.99 just charge me $15 or even $20 a month but make some newer titles available or lose me forever

  2. Bass_koss

  3. Has Netflix in Canada added any titles recently?

  4. Phil

WOW! Netfilx in Canada sucks so much!

Why can’t we have the same selection as the US does? We should be receiving the same selection if we are paying the same price. I don’t think it is fair that we pay 8 bucks a month, the same as the US residents do, and don’t have even close to the same selection that they have. I’ll cancel soon if we don’t start getting some decent titles in.

all the shows listed have been on netflix for months now.  this article failed to mention that netflix canada does not have the CURRENT season of the shows listed. Merlin is on season 4 now, weeds is on season 6 or 7.  we tend to get the first few seasons of a show and then you have to go pirate the rest…still worth the 8 bucks to watch murder she wrote on demand.

Is it normal that “The Tudors” is not available?

  9. Saazuka

They removed to Tudors… I don’t even know why they mention it in this article because it’s no longer available on Netflix Canada…..

I only see seasons 1 – 3 of Weeds on Netflix in Canada. I was just in the US and they also had seasons 4 and 5. Annoying!!!!!

  12. Hawkeye

Netflix Canada removes more content than they add. Soon they will only have one movie available  and it will probably be Kung Fu Hustle.

  13. Buttfuck

Netflix Canada has lost my membership because it’s selection is not at par with the American site.  They suck buttfuck camel cock.
