Deadline has announced the Eli Roth (CABIN FEVER, HOSTEL) will be producing two new feature films, CLOWN and AFTERSHOCK. Both films were given the go ahead by Cross Creek Pictures and Vertebra Films with Eli Roth producing and the creative go-to guy.
CLOWN is being directed by Jon Watts and is based directly off of the fake trailer that was released last month around Halloween and was posted here on the site. The fake trailer featured Eli Roth’s name even though at the time Roth knew nothing about it. It follows a dad who dawns a clown outfit for his sons birthday only to find he can’t get it off, and he begins transforming into a hideous clown-like monster. The script is being written by Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford.
AFTERSHOCK is the other feature given the green light and will follow the aftermath of the Chilean earthquake that occurred on February 27, 2010 that hit an 8.8 on the richter scale. The script for AFTERSHOCK is being penned by Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo and will be directed by Nicolas Lopez.
Eli Roth has proven himself a talented horror director with efforts like CABIN FEVER and HOSTEL, and has put his producing weight behind one of my favorite horror releases so far this year with THE LAST EXORCISM, so I think it’s a great thing to see him giving other filmmakers the chance to get their names out in the open. Based off the fake trailer for CLOWN, I am very interested in seeing how the full feature will turn out.
