Today, Bloody Disgusting reports that there will be a theatrical release for Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of Troma classic, MOTHER’S DAY. The film was picked up by Gigapix Studio and will see release on April 1, 2011. The extent to how wide the release will be is not indicated. MOTHER’S DAY follows the sadistic members of a villainous family who return to their childhood home to terrorize the new home owners and their guests.
Bousman is best known for his work as a director on SAW II, III and IV as well as REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA. MOTHER’S DAY stars Rebecca De Mornay and Jamie King and was written my Scott Milam. Gigapix Studio has two other films lined up along with its acquisition of MOTHER’S DAY which include THE TORTURED and THE BLEEDING.
Regrettably, I am unfamiliar with the original MOTHER’S DAY, but from the cast, word of mouth and with Bousman’s name attached this appears to be a film that has a great deal of potential. From early screening reports it appears that many have agreed it is one of those rare worthwhile remakes and I can’t wait to check it out!
