Timur Bekmambetov’s upcoming space thriller “Apollo 18” has just gotten even more intriguing with this first poster. It certainly doesn’t pour much light on the plot, but it does work to arouse suspense. And “There is a reason we’ve never gone back to the moon” is just a great tagline. It seemed like “The X-Files” have fully exploited and exhausted the plot focusing on government conspiracies involving aliens, but “found-footage” approach may well give it a fresh perspective.
And, speaking of government conspiracies, I can tell you that the poster contains more plot hints than it looks from the first sight. The “space” photograph is set against an elusive background of what looks like an old folder dating back to Soviet era. And since I happen to be a Russian-speaker, I can tell you that, among other things, folder says “Top Secret,” and “Government Security Committee.” Well, if anything sells better than American space-related secrets are Russian space secrets, and for once we have a director who can tack the subject with some real insight – after all Bekmambetov is a Kazakh who was born in USSR and made his career in Russia.
